The French research group, INSERM, looked at 280 children diagnosed with acute leukaemia and compared them with 288 children without the disease. After interviewing the mothers about their use of insectide shampoos and other household chemicals the scientists found that using chemical shampoo to get rid of head lice could lead to a doubling in the risk of contracting childhood leukaemia. The risk was particularly acute when mothers used insecticides during pregnancy.
Dr Florence Menegaux, the study's leader, said: 'The findings reinforce the hypothesis that household pesticides may play a role in the origin of childhood acute leukaemia. At this stage no specific product can be singled out and a causal link remains questionable. However, the consistency of our results and the results from previous studies suggest that it may be opportune to consider preventative action.' The study's findings were played down by British experts today. 'The Leukaemia Research Fund said: "This is a very small study and the evidence is very weak. However this does not mean there are no harmful consequences. More research is needed.'
No harsh chemicals in our natural treatment however, AND IT WORKS.
